Let us try to shift our attention away from the usual sports or role playing game for the meantime. One game that has caught my attention on the Playstation 2 series is that of Guitar Hero, a journey towards how artists and musicians bring their talent by humming the different beats known today.
True, Guitar Hero is not the common game that a regular gamer would consider purchasing and playing when he gets the chance. It is similar to that of the usual dance pads we see in the arcades today where certain steps and beats should be hit at the right moment to get good scores and advance to the next level. In Guitar Hero, the steps are assigned in the different buttons from beginner to the advanced levels. The easy mode uses only three buttons to hit at the right moment and consequently adds another button as a player wants to shift to the harder levels.
The objective is to get a high rating on the meter to which certain rewards and points are awarded for every successful gig. Guitar Hero may not have the usual opponent and combat modes, but overall, it is entertaining especially for the people who love music and tunes coming from different bands both present and past.

Game cheats and codes can be surfed anywhere on the web. There are numerous sites which contain helpful cheats and codes, most of which avid gamers look for to be able to make life easier as far as playing games on their Playstation 2 console.
While some would refrain from looking for these cheats, some are just impatient and want to see the secrets that are behind every game that comes out every now and then. Such discoveries tend to take out the excitement out of such games, but just the same, revealing and unlocking certain in-game secrets, characters, and special items will always offer a more entertaining time playing the game.
There are players who would rather play the game first, complete levels and the whole objective of the game like the Gran Turismo Series, NBA Live Series and the role playing games that most people get hooked on like the Final Fantasy Series. Without the use of cheats and codes, special abilities and the level of difficulty of such games will surely make it frustrating for those who have little patience. But for the people who want to take the long route there are sites on the web that can help aid them in the course of their game play.

So Sony has launched another contraption for its avid gaming followers and it really does cost a lot! While the Playstation series has been obviously something that most people are getting attached to, the cost of purchasing one may need to be looked at again. The suggest retail price for owning a Playstation 3 at the moment stands between $500.00 to $600.00 in the market and for sure, only a few can afford to shell out some cash just to buy this new gaming console launched by Sony for its seventh generation era video game console last November 11, 2006.
The price may be outrageous but the need to analyze its feasibility may be studied. For one, the games available for use with this new Playstation are only a handful. Perhaps the only possible thing that potential buyers would aim for is the distinction of owning the new device ahead of others. But isn’t this the same belief when the Playstation 2 was also launched some years back? One thing that should also be taken into consideration is the fact that people would wait for the price to drop before finally getting their own Playstation 3 device. As it stands, its current price will not attract purchases, considering that most consumers today would rather invest their hard earned money on the more important necessities of life today!

Online games have been numerous and originating from all parts of the world, particularly in the Asian countries of Korea, Taiwan and Europe. Practically anyone can log on to such gaming servers, either through downloading the game client or through purchased compact discs that contain the relevant files to be able to play the game. Among the known games include Ultima Online, Runescape, World of Warcraft Gold, and Freestyle Basketball.
There are also the usual games developed by the Yahoo group, like Bookworm, Lemonade Tycoon, Family Feud or Chess. These games are more of an individual type, although features to have a two player game are available for selected games such as Chess.
Overall, it will be all whittled down to which is important, game play or graphics. For actual role playing games, it is a toss up. For hardcore gamers, the game methodology is the more important thing over the graphics since they have been exposed to various games already. Graphics such as 3D capability is also preferred although some may have pathetic game objectives. It is truly hard to satisfy both genres but overall, their presence over the web adds another new dimension on going online, gaming at a level where they can enjoy and converse with other people from any walk of life today.

Since the inception of such games as Ultima Online, Ragnarok, Tantra and so on, online gaming never had it so good and built such a large following all over the world. These online games are different from the usual packaged ones we buy from stores. They have a wider coverage of scope and that leveling up is only one aspect of the entire gaming scenario. Game masters guide and make the game all the more interesting by providing events and special contests outside the regular course and objective of the online game.
Of course, there is always the use of cheats and hacks in these games, a glitch that is commonly present in online games that have a wider area of scope. While they may not be immediately discovered, it remains that people will search the web for such hacks and use them when given the opportunity. Such cracks in the gaming system should not be taken out on the players but rather be put on the shoulders of the game administrators to cure the bugs of the game and solve them to avoid such conflicts that players may consider unfair.

Gamers all over the world are hotly anticipating the launch of the newest gaming consoles from Sony and Nintendo. Both Sony’s Playstation 3 and Nintendo’s Wii are the hottest topics in almost all of the gaming forums online. And I really understand where all the excitement is coming from. Heck, I think I’m even one of them!Nintendo’s Wii, though not quite a graphics powerhouse when compared to the HD machines of both Sony and Microsoft, is getting a lot of buzz because of its very noble attempt to try to redefine how people play games. The company is known for its spirit of innovation and it looks like Team Nintendo is going to outdo themselves with Wii. The much vaunted controller is really getting strong positive reaction from the gaming community and, personally, I can’t wait until I try it for myself. And we’re not yet even talking about the games side of Nintendo’s console! With a number of games at launch coming from Shigeru Miyamoto himself, Nintendo is really gearing for an impressive debut.
But it looks like things are not running as smoothly at Camp Sony. The enthusiasm for the debut of Playstation 3 is only getting more dampened with a series of pronouncements from Sony itself. First, they announced that the projected units that will be released on launch day will be cut from 2 million to a mere 500,000. And then they followed this with the announcement that the launch in Europe will be moved to March 2007. These news is not helping Sony one bit. And it will be interesting to see how it will impact the console’s performance come launch day.

One of the biggest rumors circling around the gaming community is that there will be two versions of the venerable Gran Turismo franchise for the PlayStation 3.
The source of the information was an alleged interview with Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi in the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. Based on that interview Gran Turismo will be arriving in stores in two distinct forms. One to be called Gran Turismo HD: Premium and one called Gran Turismo HD: Classic.
The Premium “version” of the game will use the full graphics capabilities of the PS3 and will also include 30 cars and two courses. Gamers will have the option to buy more cars or courses later. There will also be one particular mode that will not include the usual Gran Turismo gameplay of winning races and earning cars and medals.
The Classic version, on the other hand, will allegedly came with no cars or courses and will basically be the demo that was made playable during the recently held Electronic Entertainment Expo. Based on the interview, the 750 cars can each be downloaded for 50 to 100 yen – about $0.43 to $0.86. While the 50 race tracks can be downloaded for 200 to 500 yen ($1.72 to $4.30) each.
Understandably, many gamers are up in arms over this exploitation of the concept of microtransactions. Even though there are certain benefits to microtransactions (publishers can get additional revenue, while gamers can choose what additions they want to put in their games for a fraction of the price, this kind of interpretation of microtransactions can be potentially harmful not just for the concept itself but also for Sony as they can be seen as money hungry with no concern for what is fair to gamers.

Gaming PC manufacturer Voodoo PC has agreed to the acquisition offer of Hewlett-Packard. This was announced by Voodoo founderand Chief Technology Officer Rahul Sood in his blog. The exact details of the acquisition offer were not released yet. The brothers Rahul Sood and Ravi Sood, who is currently the CEO of Voodoo, will be taking new positions within the new game business unit that will be formed in HP’s Personal Systems Group. The duo will be reporting Phil McKinney, the said group’s chief technology officer.
The Voodoo brand is quite recognizable to many PC gamers as it manufactures expensive, high end PCs for gamers and PC enthusiasts. These units often come in very elaborate designs and beautiful cases. Although it operates in a very small portion of the PC market, it actually bring higher margins compared to the mainstream market. It is widely believed that customers of companies like Voodoo (and its competitors Alienware and Falcon Northwest) are seen to be influence peddlers when it comes to less tech savvy friends and relatives.
Early this year, Dell acquired Alienware and absorbed it into the company as a wholly owned subsidiary. The company was hoping to learn more about these high end customers and also take advantage of the higher profits that are earned in the segment. In the weeks before the acquisition, Sood had predicted the deal after he had a conversation related to acquisitions with Dell Chairman Michael Dell.
The Dell - Voodoo deal is expected to be closed in November according to statement released by Hewlett Packard.

The released of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is not necessarily an easy and painless launch. One could not help but wonder if Microsoft, in its haste to beat the competition in the console race actually released a product that has not been extensively tested. I mean, why else would so many people complain of getting periodic system crashes and the dreaded “red lights of death” where you can effectively say goodbye to your console and your hard earned cash because it is effectively dead. Imagine, all those hassles when all you want to do is to plunk down on your sofa and play those HD games that Microsoft is boasting of.Now Microsoft is finally owning up to the glitches owners are experiencing with their units as they announced that it will compensate Xbox 360 owners who have broken consoles if they were purchased before January 1, 2006.
Microsoft is claiming that it was able to isolate a pattern of defective / broken systems before January 1, 2006. The company said that as part of their continuing process of “analyzing repair data”, it will compensate owners with an out of warranty repair that is free of charge if the unit was bought before the said date. Xbox 360 owners who have broken consoles but bought them after January 1, 2006 will not be eligible for the free compensation.
I am happy to see that Microsoft is finally owning up to the high incidence of returns and failures for their units. A few months back the company was claiming repeatedly that their return rate was only a negligible 3 to 5 per cent – a standard rate for all consumer electronics . They even went as much to say that the broken units were flukes.

Nintendo is considered the Apple of the game console world. The two companies are very much similar in many respects. Both are a minority in terms of market share (Nintendo being overshadowed by Sony and Microsoft), both have cult followings, both are characterized by focus on in-house software development, and both have excellent aesthetics.
So what would you expect with reviews of Nintendo products? First, is the visual and tactile experience. Seeing and holding a Wii for the first time, for instance, might elicit feelings of awe. Here’s one review where the user felt very comfortable with the Wii’s interface even without having to read the documentation.
Configuring the Wii with my wireless router was a piece of cake. If you have a wireless router, with encryption or not, you will not waste more than 2 minutes going through the configuration menus to get your Wii online. I haven’t picked up the Wii’s manual once, and I was able to get it up and running, and to my taste, in less than 10 minutes (with the software updates included).
Very much like a Mac, indeed!
