Final Fantasy XII Released!

October 31, 2006 By sharker

The long anticipation for one of the greatest game series of all time is finally over as the English version of Final Fantasy XII was released to retail outlets today. The newest game in the Final Fantasy series has been eagerly awaited by gamers all over the world. The game has suffered a number of postponements in the release of the English version mainly because of localization problems – like Final Fantasy X, this one will also have audio dialogue. The decision of Square Enix to use celebrities as voice talents also contributed to some of the delays.

But any delay only fueled the anticipation of gamers especially with the regular previews and updates Square Enix was releasing to give gamers a better perspective about the game. Final Fantasy XII features a number of gameplay improvements that are seen as a big departure from the traditional Final Fantasy game standards. First of all, the environment is now fully 3D and the gamer can control the perspective the camera, a vast improvement over the isometric view of the other games before it. The battle system is also being touted as a new one in that it feels more like it is done in real time rather than being turn based.

Last March, the respected Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu gave Final Fantasy XII a perfect score in its review – only the sixth game ever to get this kind of distinction and the second game from Square Enix to get the nod.

Final Fantasy XII will come in both a standard package and a Collector’s Edition. The latter will have an additional DVD that will feature developer interviews, trailers, an art gallery, among others.
