Make Way for the New Gaming Console OUYA

In recent years, the gaming consoles that became well known were the PlayStation 2, PSP Go and Vita, the Wii and Xbox. The tablet has also entered the scene as a popular gaming device these days. Now, a new gaming console is out and it’s called OUYA.

The device went on sale this week in the U.S., U.K. and Canada. Priced at $99, it reportedly sold like hot cakes and was sold out Tuesday on Amazon. Other sites that sell the device include Best Buy, Target, Gamestop and GAME in the U.K.

OUYA is an open gaming console that any user can develop for or even hack as they find necessary. Launched on Kickstarter last year, the device underwent improvements as the company developing it received feedback from gamers, developers and backers. In fact, the 2012 launch enabled Kickstarter to set a record for its funding that reached a total of $8.6 million.

This Android device has been getting flak from people but Kickstarter developers explained they’ve done a lot of tweaking to the console in recent months before its release. The device now has a better store interface and playlists while each game page features large screenshots. …

iPad Wins as Top Mobile Gaming Device

Mobile technology is definitely what’s hot today. The earlier forecast of mobile devices overtaking desktop is already a reality worldwide.

Devices closely competing are the smartphone and tablets, in particular the iPad. Research group eMarketer has predicted that the number of iPad users in the U.S. will reach 53.2 million this 2012, an increase by more than 90 percent from the 2011 figure of 28 million. As for smartphone ownership, comScore estimated that the number will reach 110 million this year.

The latest buzz is that in terms of use of mobile device in gaming, the iPad has been declared as winner. A new study by Magid Media commissioned by PlayFirst revealed that more gamers using the iPad buy apps compared to gamers using the smartphone.

Tablet game apps are tops

Here are some interesting facts that might also surprise you. The research that covered 2,540 mobile users in Australia aged from 8 to 64 found that game apps for tablets are the most frequently purchased content these days. Also, tablets in many homes have become the top entertainment device edging out the TV. Australians are among the top users of mobile devices around the globe.
