Gaming Has Gone Beyond Consoles

August 13, 2012 By Belinda Montgomery

As technology advances, people enjoy more upgraded devices. Despite the higher prices that come with the newer models, many consumers don’t mind spending for their favorite gadgets and changing them as often as they like.

This is what’s happening with the video gaming consoles. In the past, it used to be that people relied primarily on them to play their favorite video games. In short, one had to purchase a console and even a cartridge in order to play a game. Such is the case for most of the Nintendo devices like the Atari and Gameboy.

Today, however, this is no longer the case. In fact, gaming has gone beyond the consoles.

With the advent of the internet, it is possible nowadays for players to do what they love to do online either via their computer or their mobile phone. This is convenience and savings at their best. In other words, it is really not even necessary to own a specific console in order to play a particular video game. Keep in mind that a gaming device can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars but if you’re okay with going online, then you can be sure to enjoy big savings.

The designer of Tekken, one of the most famous video games, agree that manufacturers of game consoles can no longer control the way people games. According to Harada San who is the game director and chief producer of Tekken, major console makers such as Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft can even do more good if they join forces. By this, he means coming up with a single console for the satisfaction of consumers.

Sharing with you some interesting statistics here about gaming console usage. According to the 2012 figures of grabstats.com, there are currently 190 million households in the U.S. that own the next-generation video game consoles and 80 percent have consoles connected to the internet.

Also, 65 million American households play video and computer games while the average age of a player is 35. The regular players have been engaged in their favorite activity for 13 years. You might be surprised to know that of these millions of game players, 40 percent are actually women.

A Choice between Sword and Guns

June 21, 2011 By sharker

Most hardcore gamers today who are obviously after the best game play methodology would usually be left with either choosing a gun or a sword in his own role playing expedition in the usually created game worlds today. Such has been seen from the games that have been clamored to by millions such as Gunbound and Runescape. Both have their own style of game play, either medieval times or old western style shoot-around.

Guns versus Swords RPG

Depending on the theme of the developed game or the actual purpose of usual storylines that would guide the new player towards his journey, people are sure to be befuddled with what type of character they would want to create and develop. For medieval worlds, warriors and magicians would usually be the primary categories of choice. But if there is one thing that a hardcore gamer should be aware of, he must ultimately decide on one character creation first before moving on to choosing other character types with special skills. Patience in this type of game play is a rarity but can be an asset if used well.

The type of game a player would want to follow can be foretold in his initial affiliation with online games. Much of today’s successful online games such as Runescape, offers a balance for both crafts and combat. Unlike the standard objectives of a medieval or futuristic game setup, it is not purely about armed combat, utilizing high-powered artillery and casting spells.

Flight of Dragons

Today, it is also about being wise and finding ways to survive. RPG caters towards virtual reality worlds, something that speaks well about the overall concept of a game. Adhering towards both sides similar to that of actual life is not easy to understand. While this is not to connote that RPG are truly good, it indirectly provides a good understanding on how to approach personal endeavors of survival in a different manner.

The success of such online games would depend a lot on how well they can be towards players. Just consider how long they have been in existence. Runescape and Ultima Online, among others are still up and about. Just check out the overall game play and you will find out the secret to their success.

There have been a number of games known such as Runescape, World of Warcraft and Tantra. Playing God with Online Game Emulators

July 12, 2010 By sharker

Most online games have game emulators and scripts of varied nature that allow people who have been addicted to such online games to try their hands at playing god. While some are purely after studying the mechanics of the game, and making it a whole lot easier by being the one who knows the ins and outs of the fabricated personal world.

Games such as Ultima Online and Ragnarok have respective game emulators available for download. For some people, playing alone rather than with other hardcore gamers will satisfy their usual feeling of triumph. However, the excitement and the challenge will apparently be gone.

Additionally, bugs and scripting problems will occur. The need to study the programming methodology from them will surely be something that allows players to appreciate why such online games are rarely offered by ambitious administrators who will manage a group of demanding individuals wanting a crack at administering and programming the course of the game.

The Preference for High Resolution Graphics in Online Games

July 5, 2010 By sharker

Online games have been numerous and originating from all parts of the world, particularly in the Asian countries of Korea, Taiwan and Europe. Practically anyone can log on to such gaming servers, either through downloading the game client or through purchased compact discs that contain the relevant files to be able to play the game. Among the known games include Ultima Online, Runescape, World of Warcraft Gold, and Freestyle Basketball.

There are also the usual games developed by the Yahoo group, like Bookworm, Lemonade Tycoon, Family Feud or Chess. These games are more of an individual type, although features to have a two player game are available for selected games such as Chess.

Overall, it will be all whittled down to which is important, game play or graphics. For actual role playing games, it is a toss up. For hardcore gamers, the game methodology is the more important thing over the graphics since they have been exposed to various games already. Graphics such as 3D capability is also preferred although some may have pathetic game objectives. It is truly hard to satisfy both genres but overall, their presence over the web adds another new dimension on going online, gaming at a level where they can enjoy and converse with other people from any walk of life today.

Legends of Zork Launched

March 27, 2010 By sharker

Ever heard of Legends of Zork? If not, then it’s about time that you did. GameStop recently launched its new online game – which, by the way, is FREE TO PLAY – and it is called Legends of Zork. The well known name in the gaming world has teamed up with Jolt Online (another upcoming name in gaming) to provide access to Legends of Zork.

In line with the launch of the online game, GameStop is also running a promo contest. Basically, what you have to do is go to any GameStop location in the United States and ask for a promotional card. Yes, believe it or not, it is also FREE.

You then have to register online at www.LegendsOfZork.com using the code found in the card. Upon doing this, you are qualified to join their sweepstakes. Here’s the great thing: the prize is one year’s worth of FREE video games. Now who wouldn’t want to win that???

I have to tell you, though, that you need to head on over to the nearest GameStop location NOW. The cards are free but they are being given away on a first come first served basis. With this kind of prize at stake, I will not be a bit surprised if the promotional cards run out.

Going back to the new game, I haven’t tried it; but, I think that I will at least give it a try. I like the name Zork and there are no download requirements for the game. Let me know if you get around to playing.

EA Continues To Support Tiger Woods

January 10, 2010 By sharker

tiger_woods_online_monster_397x224The year 2009 was rocked – hard – by various controversies. From politics to the entertainment industry to sports – we all heard and saw one scandal after the other all throughout the year. Not the least of these scandals is what happened to star golfer Tiger Woods. Who would have thought that he had all those skeletons in his closet?

After the news about his infidelity, it came as no surprise when sponsor after sponsor jumped ship, not wanting to touch the former squeaky clean sportsman. Here’s a bit of news though: Electronic Arts (EA) is standing by their guy! Well, I don’t know much about the relationship between Tiger Woods and EA but the fact remains that the video game icon is not cancelling its plans because of the scandal.

Prior to all the hullaballoo, EA already had plans to launch Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online. This is obviously the web-based version of the known video game. Developers were working on it last year when Tiger Wood’s personal life became headline news all over the world.

The people at EA say that what they have – the company and Tiger Woods – is all about golf and sportsmanship. They are taking the stand that whatever problems Tiger has in his personal life, it doesn’t change the fact that he is the best golfer out there.

Me, I don’t like golf – in real life or in video games. I also don’t think that EA will simply drop an investment like that. What are they going to do with the game anyway? Might as well launch it, right?

Whether such online playing would entail role-playing, adventure games, arcade games or even basic word games, the impact towards people in any aspect has been very much astonishing.

Online Gamers

Known online games are popular, especially if a person would find himself around the Yahoo website. Diner Dash, Scrabble or even Lemonade Tycoon are simple games but would need the decision-making abilities of people to put logical choices to the test. While graphics is certainly not the immediate importance for such games, the game methodology is what keep people glued and addicted to such games today.

There will always be the high definition games where online servers such as Battle.net will adhere to the demands of most avid gaming enthusiasts. But while these games are deemed more complex for the matter that command and control familiarization is something that many would have to consider.

But given the addiction that people have for such games, it would not take long for them to be familiar with the necessary controls since all they have to do is push the button to see what it is for.

Paying to Play Runescape

February 10, 2007 By sharker

Runescape is without a doubt becoming one of the favorite online games that can be tried out by anyone in the world today. While paid servers would still provide the complete experience of actually enjoying the game, the free servers of Runescape are offered to anyone who would be interested in checking out this hot online RPG game.

Runescape Game

Runescape offers the familiar medieval adventure game that falls on a fantasy setting. Monsters and co-players who follow the game try to go through the motions of understanding the online game that is not merely based on fighting and magic. It is also a means of finding the necessary means to earn gold or money, something that Runescape players deem as necessary to be a competent Runescape adventurer.

For addicted Runescape players who want to experience the complete package, the monthly subscription rate is $5.00 to get into the paid servers. While some would hesitate to pay for online game servers, the monthly rate is reasonable considering that free servers would be limited to only primary level enjoyment.

The real deal occurs once players would start getting into the paid Runescape server, the population of which is the key towards showing why Runescape players are continuously getting addicted to the game.
