Why Game Cheats Take the Fun Out of Games

January 21, 2007 | Posted by sharker in Cheats, Kotaku, Reviews, Tips

To whom should the presence of cheats and tips to make a game easier be credited to, the developers or the hackers? It only boils down to two sides of people in most cases. While hackers may get praises for their brilliance, what does this say about the actual game developers? Are these actually given or were they intended to cover up the game glitches which they cannot seem to solve?

Program Hackers

Most games released nowadays would be open to these. It is true that similar to most programs and implemented systems, games are not error or bug free. These are usually found by people who simply cannot ignore their curiosity. A flaw in the system is sure to ensue. It is bound to inspire the hackers and code breakers since the recognition of such is too hard to pass up.

On the other hand, such would be welcome news towards avid gamers who are simply impatient to go through the game entirely. For one, getting through various stages and levels without having to restart at times from the beginning is a bonus in itself. Besides, finishing the game until the ending credits is the objective of any gamer.

Playstation Cheats Screens

Game cheats and codes can be surfed anywhere on the web. There are numerous sites which contain helpful cheats and codes, most of which avid gamers look for to be able to make life easier as far as playing games on their Playstation 2 console.

While some would refrain from looking for these cheats, some are just impatient and want to see the secrets that are behind every game that comes out every now and then. Such discoveries tend to take out the excitement out of such games, but just the same, revealing and unlocking certain in-game secrets, characters, and special items will always offer a more entertaining time playing the game.

There are players who would rather play the game first, complete levels and the whole objective of the game like the Gran Turismo Series, NBA Live Series and the role playing games that most people get hooked on like the Final Fantasy Series. Without the use of cheats and codes, special abilities and the level of difficulty of such games will surely make it frustrating for those who have little patience. But for the people who want to take the long route there are sites on the web that can help aid them in the course of their game play.

The Spread of the Online Gaming Fever

December 22, 2006 | Posted by sharker in Online Gaming, PC, Reviews

Online Games

Since the inception of such games as Ultima Online, Ragnarok, Tantra and so on, online gaming never had it so good and built such a large following all over the world. These online games are different from the usual packaged ones we buy from stores. They have a wider coverage of scope and that leveling up is only one aspect of the entire gaming scenario. Game masters guide and make the game all the more interesting by providing events and special contests outside the regular course and objective of the online game.

Of course, there is always the use of cheats and hacks in these games, a glitch that is commonly present in online games that have a wider area of scope. While they may not be immediately discovered, it remains that people will search the web for such hacks and use them when given the opportunity. Such cracks in the gaming system should not be taken out on the players but rather be put on the shoulders of the game administrators to cure the bugs of the game and solve them to avoid such conflicts that players may consider unfair.

Neverwinter Nights 2

November 20, 2006 | Posted by sharker in New Games, News

Fans of Neverwinter Nights were ecstatic to learn that the much awaited sequel is being released very soon. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Atari, Neverwinter Nights 2 is due to be released in September 19 of this year. For sure, gamers of all ages are eagerly waiting on the edge of their seats for this day.

What are we supposed to expect from this sequel? When Obsidian president, Feargus Urquhart, was interviewed by Gamespot regarding the game, he was (quite understandably) reluctant to reveal any details. However, he was quick to emphasize that they didn’t want to stray far from the original game. He stressed that the elements gamers loved in the previous game wouldn’t be left out and instead they built upon those elements and added to them. Neverwinter Nights 2 uses a different graphics engine from the Neverwinter Nights, making modules from the previous version incompatible with the newer version, though.

Even as details are handed out in bits and pieces, Neverwinter Nights 2 looks to be a very promising game indeed. The graphics are more finely tuned and the player has more options when it comes to creating his character. There is also a new camera which has a zoom in function so that the action is even more lifelike. With the host of new characters, creatures, and battle options, you will really get a kick out of this new feature.

It is a common fear that sequels would not be able to live up to the huge success of the original game. With Neverwinter Nights 2, however, it seems that this fear might be ungrounded. Anyhow, we will all see come September.
