February 26, 2013 By Belinda Montgomery

A lot of young people who are so into computer games normally don’t expect their dads, moms much more their grannies to play their games. If there are parents or grannies who may be interested, they’re very few and far between. Most of them would say it’s just for kids or they’re too violent.

Completing the Gaming Experience with Modified Controllers and Gears

June 30, 2010 By sharker

There are a lot of things an addicted gamer would prefer for his game console. Regardless if this is a PlayStation, Nintendo, Gamebox or personal computer games, add-ons in the form of steering wheel controllers, dance pads and higher capacity memory cards will always be available for expansion.

Some people would be content by merely having the basic gaming unit and satisfying themselves with the available options a game would have. But sooner or later, depending on the game genre that they are looking at, upgrades and improvements to their current setup will surely ensue.

Advanced Game Requirements

There is no question that a gaming experience would increase the ante of requirements to play the game at a higher level. Such an occurrence will only be normal because this is what game developers aim to achieve. Higher requirements in the form of required controllers and hardware requirements will only be normal. The advanced a game becomes, the higher the need for advanced requirements as well.

Sims 3: Best-Selling PC Game Of 2009

January 25, 2010 By sharker

sims-3I think that everyone knows this in the back of their minds, although confirmation from those who actually crunch the numbers is always appreciated. According to EA, this simulation game that some people look down on (yep, I can name a few friends who would never lift a finger to buy this game) has sold more copies last year than big games such as Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and World of Warcraft. Can you believe that? I sure can!

Will Wright, the genius behind The Sims franchise, must be ecstatic right now; and he should very well be! With all the copies that his games (from the very first Sims to the latest), he should be all set for the rest of his life. Not only that, his name will forever be remembered by the countless gamers he has made happy!

So just how many copies were sold in 2009? You might not believe this, but The Sims 3 sold 1.4 million copies in its first week alone. By the end of June 2009, this figure had risen to 3.7 million. Unfortunately, EA has not released the exact figures for the whole year. That makes me wonder, but let’s just give them the benefit of a doubt, shall we? After all, this is not the first time that a Sims game has been proclaimed the best-selling PC game for the year. In fact, this is the sixth time in 10 years that this has happened.

If you haven’t tried The Sims 3 yet, I suggest you go buy one now.

The Beauty of Playing Online with Friends

March 4, 2007 By sharker

The advent of online playing games has spread like wildfire and has enticed more people to take on gaming on a different aspect. Whether such online playing would entail role-playing, adventure games, arcade games or even basic word games, the impact towards people in any aspect has been very much astonishing.

Online Gamers

Known online games are popular, especially if a person would find himself around the Yahoo website. Diner Dash, Scrabble or even Lemonade Tycoon are simple games but would need the decision-making abilities of people to put logical choices to the test. While graphics is certainly not the immediate importance for such games, the game methodology is what keep people glued and addicted to such games today.

There will always be the high definition games where online servers such as Battle.net will adhere to the demands of most avid gaming enthusiasts. But while these games are deemed more complex for the matter that command and control familiarization is something that many would have to consider.

But given the addiction that people have for such games, it would not take long for them to be familiar with the necessary controls since all they have to do is push the button to see what it is for.

HP gets Voodoo PC

December 16, 2006 By sharker

Gaming PC manufacturer Voodoo PC has agreed to the acquisition offer of Hewlett-Packard. This was announced by Voodoo founderand Chief Technology Officer Rahul Sood in his blog. The exact details of the acquisition offer were not released yet. The brothers Rahul Sood and Ravi Sood, who is currently the CEO of Voodoo, will be taking new positions within the new game business unit that will be formed in HP’s Personal Systems Group. The duo will be reporting Phil McKinney, the said group’s chief technology officer.

The Voodoo brand is quite recognizable to many PC gamers as it manufactures expensive, high end PCs for gamers and PC enthusiasts. These units often come in very elaborate designs and beautiful cases. Although it operates in a very small portion of the PC market, it actually bring higher margins compared to the mainstream market. It is widely believed that customers of companies like Voodoo (and its competitors Alienware and Falcon Northwest) are seen to be influence peddlers when it comes to less tech savvy friends and relatives.

Early this year, Dell acquired Alienware and absorbed it into the company as a wholly owned subsidiary. The company was hoping to learn more about these high end customers and also take advantage of the higher profits that are earned in the segment. In the weeks before the acquisition, Sood had predicted the deal after he had a conversation related to acquisitions with Dell Chairman Michael Dell.

The Dell – Voodoo deal is expected to be closed in November according to statement released by Hewlett Packard.

A “horsy” tip for Oblivion

October 1, 2006 By sharker

The PC game that currently has my undivided attention the past few months is Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Being the RPG geek that I am, Oblivion really delivers the goods in giving me the fix that I need.Of course one of the things that really gets annoying in RPGs is that you would eventually get so much loot that you can’t carry them! Well in Oblivion you can actually use your horse to solve the problem!

To do this you must first complete the Dark Brotherhood quests until you receive Shadowmare as your reward. It is special because it cannot be killed only made unconscious. Now knock Shadowmare unconscious. When he drops you are given the option to access his body through the spacebar. Open him and dump your extra gear into him. Shadowmare will regain “consciousness” in a few seconds. Now whenever you need to see your gear you just need to knock Shadowmare unconscious again. The great thing is that there seems to be no weight limit to what he can hold and all of the items remain forever.
